What is a Child's/Minor's Massage?

This is a massage is for children or minors, typically this type of massage is from the ages of 2-17.  It is defined as the manipulation of soft tissue for the intent of promoting the health and well being of children or minors.  It is often referred to as Pediatric Massage.  When children are younger they may not be able to sit for very long, so they may need a shorter amount of time.  For teenagers most likely they can easily handle a 50-60 minute massage.  To be honest it depends on the teenager and what they can handle.  As far as pressure, it is whatever preference in pressure that the child or minor wants.  So if they prefer light, medium, or hard pressure.  For younger children light to medium pressure.   For teenagers if they like hard pressure it's ok as long as they don't feel any pain.  A legal guardian must sign permission for their child or minor to receive a massage.  Children must have a legal guardian or parent in the room with them during the massage.  A teenager/minor can choose to have or not have a parent or legal guardian in the room with them.

Disclaimer

Sometimes the stomach/abdominal muscles can be tight or the but/glute muscles can be tight.  If a child or minor really needs this kind of work done it can be done.  Only with written consent from a legal guardian saying they can receive this kind of massage.  The minor must sign the consent letter too.  Then the abdominal muscles or the glute muscles can be worked.  If the Minor or Legal Guardian of the Minor is not comfortable with this kind of work being done those or that area will be skipped during the massage.  Usually the abdominal muscles are not massaged during a massage unless someone specifically wants them worked.  Also the glute muscles are not usually worked on for children or minors.

Add-On: Recommended Stretches $0
After the massage, therapist gives one stretch to do for homework to help release muscle tension.  Pointer for stretching.  Go into stretch slowly and come out of stretch slowly.  When slowly moving into a stretch, go further until one feels a slight stretch.  If one over stretches, the next few days, those muscles could feel like an achy kind of pain.  Hold stretch for at least 10-15 seconds, doing reps up to 1-2 minutes, on one side.  Doing the same repetitive movement or staying in the same position all the time can cause muscles to become really tight.  Stretching tells the muscles, that they can relax.  The more one stretches, the more the muscles relax.

Add-On: Stretches During Massage $0

During Swedish Massage or Deep Tissue/Treatments Massage therapist can add stretches.  Joints involved in stretching: neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, or ankle.  Swedish Massage stretches: assisted range of motion, moving neck, arm, or legs until client feels a stretch.  For Deep Tissue/Treatments it is a assisted range of motion stretch with compression the muscle, to assist the muscle in relaxing/releasing.  If would like a Swedish massage with more of a focus of stretching the neck, arms, or legs. Please let therapist know before the massage.
